... this is a team practice. Public Frenemy only please.

NEXT WEEKLY TEAM WORKOUT WILL BE:
TUESDAY the 15th, from 7PM to 9PM, at COOPERS PARK
(We start at 7:00 sharp. so be there 7:00 P.F.T. (Public Frenemy Time: 15 minutes early)

PURE conditioning (http://www.pureconditioning.ca/) has teamed up with Public Frenemy to create the ultimate mind/body training experience. This begins with a full body workout that focuses on endurance, strength and conditioning.

Directly after the workout, Public Frenemy gears up on the spot to work on derby tactics and education. This will encompass everything from the most basic tactics, all the way up to learning the Public Frenemy playbook.

This workout is the ultimate experience for your body, and the education that follows is a great way to build confidence. The entire session is a fantastic team building experience as well.

When is the weekly team workout?
The workout is normally held on Tuesday, but there are exceptions depending on the coaches availability. Always double check with a captain or coach as to when the weekly practice will be held.

You can also check at the very top and bottom of this posting to see the next day confirmed.

Where does this weekly team workout take place?
Cooper's Park is located directly underneath the north side of the Cambie Street Bridge, in downtown Vancouver.

What time is the workout?
7:00 PM. This time is subject to change is rare circumstances, so always double check. This is a 2 hour practice in total.

How do I get there?
You can walk from Stadium Skytrain or Main Street Skytrain. You can drive and find parking in the nearby area. It is possible to find parking in this area, even though it is downtown.

If you do drive, please attempt to never drive alone. Always make an attempt to pick someone up along the way. Information on player locations will be made available in the next few weeks, so in the meantime please ask if anyone needs a lift.

If you want a warm up, you can skate the seawall from Main St. station. This skate takes about 15 minutes, is fun and is easy. It is not suggested you skate from Stadium, as the trip is downhill and through downtown traffic.

If a group decides to skate the seawall to practice they could correspond and meet at Main st. before skating out. Usually a group will meet and embark from Main st. at 6:30

Is this an official practice?
This is absolutely an official team practice.

Can I bring along a friend?
It is a public area so we can not accept or deny anyone to the place where we practice. Having said that, we would ask you to please not invite any spectators until the team has had a chance to master its workout regime and training plan. Until then, we would like to minimize distractions. This rule will be re-addressed by the summer.

Regarding lateness...
Fies-T and Mr.T from PURE fitness generously donate their time and energy to help out this team. The least we can do to show our respect and support is to show up directly on time, or early. Please be there on time.

Do I need to bring my gear?
Yes. Bring everything, since the tactics portion of the workout will involve skating in the nice blacktop basketball court located in the same area, under the bridge (dry).

The cost of having two personal trainers write up a plan, motivate you during workouts and owning a gym membership can become very expensive. The folks at PURE not only have designed a fantastic and ever evolving derby-specific workout, but they are also offering this to the team at no extra cost. We are extremely lucky to have such an opportunity, and we would like to extend a massive thank you to PURE Conditioning.

Go ahead and add PURE Conditioning on Facebook, and if you get the chance let your friends know what an amazing thing they are doing.

See you there!

NEXT WEEKLY TEAM WORKOUT WILL BE:

(We start at 7:00 sharp. so be there 7:00 P.F.T. (Public Frenemy Time: 15 minutes early)

For this Wednesday's skate, I will be skating along the seawall to get to practice, as long as it stays dry. If anyone wants to meet me at the Main Street Skytrain Station, I will hang out there until 6:30, and then start the skate out. You will see me after you exit the station, on the stairs next to the street.

Thanks for the heads up Shifty. We may end up putting this in the private section.

We completely trust that no one in this league would willingly act as a distraction during our team practice. If you "just happen to be walking down the seawall at that exact moment of our practice :) ", we know you will do your best to respect our team. It is a public space after all.

For those who are interested in this type of practice: PURE Conditioning could do some great stuff for the entire league in the future, such as a potential league-wide fitness practice. I would encourage teams interested in strength and conditioning training to consider contacting the training committee. I did a PURE workout last week and it absolutely rocked me to the core.

Juanna's Rawk is a excellent trainer as well. Are these classes still in effect?

Perhaps we could shoot a short vid of the PURE workout as well? Buffy rocks at this sort of thing, and it might be a nice cross-promotion? Just ideas.

First workout was a massive success. Congrats Public Frenemy, and special thanks to PURE for all their hard work. Everyone had a great attitude. Now that we have learned the circuit, future workouts should get easier and easier.

Just a reminder that if you are injured or sick you should not take part in the workouts. Yes, you can modify your workout to avoid working an injured area, but within reason. We are not responsible for you getting the recovery time you need. You are, and we fully support your need to fully recover. Be honest with us, and lets keep the team healthy.

For injured team members: you are more than welcome to watch the workouts, but please be EXTRA warm while doing so, with lots of warm clothes.

Lots of fist bumping, to limit colds from getting around, and lots of "Hell yeah's!" were heard. Overall a great experience, and I can not wait until we all start noticing and enjoying the results for ourselves.

For next week, remember to bring along some gloves to help keep your digits warm, and well as a toque or cap. It WILL get warmer soon, which will be sooo nice. I will bring along the chocolate milk for some shots after practice!
