Bout 3.3 Recap - June 6
by Ryan Seven, TCRG League Reporter
Last Saturday was a great day for hard-hitting, high-scoring derby action in Vancouver as the crowd at Minoru Arena was treated to two bouts, with all three TCRG teams ending their regular seasons on respective high-notes. The Bad Reputations scored a dominant 131-48 win over Calgary’s Thrashin’ Lassies, while the Riot Girls ended the regular season undefeated after a hard-fought battle against the rookie-powered Faster Pussycats with a score of 131-90.

Bad Reps: 131 - Calgary’s Thrashin’ Lassies: 48
The night started with the Bad Reps up against the visiting Thrashin’ Lassies from Calgary. Extra fuel was added to the Cowtown-VanCity rivalry with the return of ex-TCRG’er Trophy Wife, who returned to her old stomping grounds to battle her ex-teammates on the Bad Reputations.
The Bad Reps kicked off their winning night in the opening jam and didn’t slow down. In the fourth jam, Rollergirl scored 8 points before being sidelined by a hit from Trophy Wife. But the Reps didn’t let their ex-teammate bring them down, and fought to end the first half with a commanding 75-19 lead. They also took lead-jammer in all but 3 of the 17 first-half jams.
In the second half, the Reps continued rolling to victory with Lamb Baste-Her, risquée biznatch, Booty Quake and Collide-O-Scope Kid racking up most of the bout’s points, and the blockers making the Lassies work for every one of their points.
Lamb Baste-Her and Chrissy Cruiser got the most points for their teams, with 38 and 24, respectively.

Riot Girls: 131 - Faster Pussycats: 90
The track really started to heat up for the second bout – both figuratively and literally, as the Riot Girls sweated out an impressive victory. The first jam started with Ring’er Bell hanging back against 8 Mean Wheeler. As 8 Mean busted her way through the pack to get lead jammer, Ring’er Bell slipped through from behind, igniting the Faster Pussycats with a 7-6 start.
The rookie momentum kept going with Player One and Licious Wonderwoman adding to the lead in the first four jams, taking the score to 16-12 before the lead slipped away from them. After some costly visits to Penalty Palace for the Faster Pussycats, the Riot Girls capitalized and showed why they’re the TCRG’s team to beat this season.
At the end of the first half, with the Riot Girls up 66-41, the FPC’s were still in the game – a far departure from the 139-47 loss to the Bad Reps last month.
In the final stretch of the second half, the bout’s turning point came when Trixi Trippin’ Chix kicked it into high-gear, ripping up the track and scoring four grand-slams – 20 points – and setting a new TCRG record for most points in a single jam.
With the score at 115-52 it could have slid into a match that would have easily been dubbed Apocalypse Meow, but the Pussycats clawed back, narrowing the gap to a final score of 131-90. Both teams kept the crowd in the bout for the entire game. Ring’er Bell got 36 points for the Faster Pussycats, while 8 Mean Wheeler was the night’s highest- scoring jammer with 44 points.
The Riot Girls have solidified their place in the TCRG’s August 8th Championship Game against the Bad Reputations, in a rematch of the lethal season opener. In the same August bout, the Faster Pussycats will be looking for their first kill against undetermined travel team. But before any of that, the TCRG Travel Team will play host to teams from B.C. and beyond at Derby Night In Canada, the 2nd Annual Invitational Tournament, on July 11 at UBC’s new Thunderbird Arena.
